Gary Dembs, Senior Associate of the Nonprofit Management Group, founded the Non-Profit Personnel Network in 1994 after a 21 year career in public relations and broadcasting. He is a pioneer in the advent of combining effective marketing, fundraising and human resource functions for nonprofit organizations and institutions. Both as a professional and volunteer, Gary has over 20 years experience working for the non-profit sector exclusively.
Over the past two decades, Gary has concentrated his efforts on executive searches, strategic planning, and non-profit board development. Gary is mission-driven, community-minded and works to empower organizations to take an integrated approach, both on the staff and board levels to further the goals and objectives of the nonprofits with which he consults nationally. His experience also encompasses capital campaigns, major gifts, corporate sponsorships and special events.

| Gary was a two-term board president of the Association of Fundraising Professionals - Greater Detroit Chapter, and attained certified fundraising executive status (CFRE). He is currently participating in the Detroit Regional Chamber's Leadership Detroit, Class XXX, a nationally recognized program that provides critical knowledge and skills needed for leading the region in the 21st Century. Gary was a founder and first president of the Greater Detroit Non-Profit Public Relations Network.
Additionally, Gary has taught fundraising and marketing for non-profits at Wayne State University in Detroit and is a regular presenter at conferences and seminars throughout the country. As a volunteer he serves on the board of a Detroit-area based crisis management group, (Common Ground) is a former board president of a special needs adoption agency (Spaulding for Children), and helped found two emergency food pantries; Yad Ezra and Forgotten Harvest.
Gary received his bachelor degree from Western Michigan University, and is a former radio news and sports reporter in Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo, Michigan. This year he was inducted into the WMU School of Communication’s Outstanding Alumni Academy in recognition of excellence in professional accomplishments and civic service.
